For anyone interested in blogging, it can be hard to find the one that works for you. You want to go where people can read your blog or maybe you want it where only your family or friends can read it. It took me some time, but I complied what I believe to be the list of the best. If anyone sees one I missed, please feel free to add the blog in your comment, that way you can help me make this the ultimate list of the best blogs.

WordPress (http://wordpress.com) this one is number one for one main reason, it does not have ads on your blog. You can set up your layout, color scheme, theme and everything just the way you want it. Not only can you install WordPress on your own sites, you can use the same software on their site and save yourself all of the technical work. You do not have to install anything, but you can if you choose to.

Blogger/BlogSpot (http://blogger.com) This one is one of most commonly used blogs, linking to others is quite easy and updating it is very user-friendly. You also have the option of deleting comments, which is nice for those who don’t want people advertising on their blogs.

LiveJournal (http://livejournal.com) Not only is this a great blog, but it a great tool for writers. There are hundreds of groups set up designed to let you join a writing challenge. For anyone who is looking to have their skills as a writer tested, this is the place for you. Customizable theme, avatars, layouts and a few more things you can get if you want to pay for them, but I did that a few years back, not really worth the money.

Vox (http://vox.com) A personal blogging service where people share thoughts, photos, videos with friends and family

BlogSome (blogsome.com) BlogSome is the fastest growing blog host in the world (in percentage terms) Was voted Forbes Best of The Web pick. Based out of Ireland, this site uses the WordPress MU platform, large choice of themes.

Xanga (www.xanga.com) This is more community-centric blogging, including Friends lists.

MySpace (www.myspace.com) this is more community-centric blogging, but you get all sorts of layout and backgrounds to play with. There are so many websites dedicated to making backgrounds and goodies for MySpace it is not funny.

Facebook: (www.facebook.com) On Facebook, you can have “Notes” which are viewed by your friends. If you want only friends and family to see this, you have the option on Facebook.

Insane Journal (InsaneJournal.com) – Another site based on the same software that runs LiveJournal, offers free and paid accounts, paid benefits are only enhancements.

Journal Fen (JournalFen.net) – Runs on the same platform as LiveJournal platform, very much directed towards various topics and is meant for users 18 and older.

BlogABond (Blogabond.com) – A site dedicated to travel blogs with map integration and more.

Blog Cheese (BlogCheese.com) – A video blogging website. Nothing to do with cheese.

Busy Thumbs (BusyThumbs.com)- A blog site specifically for your text messages and camera phone images.

FreeVlog (Freevlog) – Designed for video blogging and completely free.

Trippert (Trippert.com) – Create and share blogs of your travels.

Word Count Journal (http://www.wordcountjournal.com) – A new blogging format that is also part challenge. Write one word on the first day, two words on the second day and so on, at the end of the year you’ll have written 66,795 words. I have five novels going on here and one more book on religion. This makes writing fun, it also counts your words for you so you don’t write too many.

Blogetery (Blogetery.com) – Offers multiple templates, anti-spam, free sub-domain and more. You can also get paid to write there, your profit there is 90%, which is higher than most paid to write blogs. I am a member here and highly recommend it.

EduBlogs (Edublogs.com) – WordPress powered blogging for educators and students alike.

Blog (Blog.com) – Offers free blog hosting with unlimited bandwidth for their free package, more benefits for paid members.

Blogr (Blogr.com) – Allows you to blog, host photos & videos, and podcasts.

Blogster (Blogster.com) – Offers free image hosting in addition to free blogs.

Open Diary (Open Diary.com) – Offers unlimited storage and posts, low cost subscription rates for advanced features.

ShoutPost (ShoutPost.com) – A platform for creating blogs with a focus on generating traffic. Ad-free!

Soul Cast (SoulCast.com) – Have something you want to talk about, but want to say it anonymously? This may be the blogging site for you. You can also get paid to right here and there are no restrictions on what you say and how you say it.

A young Afghan wife whose ears and nose were cut off by her husband

Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN) -- Bibi Aisha, a young Afghan wife whose ears and nose were cut off by her husband, is heading to the United States on Wednesday for reconstructive surgery.

Aisha made headlines and was on a recent cover of Time magazine, showing the plight of women in Afghanistan.

"When they cut off my nose and ears, I passed out," Aisha said, describing the attack. "It felt like there was cold water in my nose. I opened my eyes, and I couldn't even see because of all the blood."

But she survived.

With the help of an American provincial reconstruction team in Oruzgan province and the organization Women for Afghan Women, she finally received the help and protection she needed.

And now she is on her way to the United States, where the Grossman Burn Foundation will provide her with reconstructive surgery and a new life.

Aisha says her mutilation was an act of Taliban justice for the crime of shaming her husband's family.

At 16, she was handed over to her husband's father and 10 brothers, who she claims were all members of the Taliban in Oruzgan.

"I spent two years with them and became a prisoner," she said.

She eventually ran away but was caught by police in Kandahar. And although running away is not a crime, in places throughout Afghanistan, it is treated as one if you are a woman. Eventually her father-in-law found her and took her back to her abusive home.

She was taken to a Taliban court for dishonoring her husband's family and bringing them shame. The court ruled that her nose and ears must be cut off, an act carried out by her husband in the mountains of Oruzgan, where they left her to die.

After Aisha's story was exposed to the world through various news organizations, offers of help poured in.

But there are many more women still suffering.

The United Nations estimates that nearly 90 percent of Afghanistan's women face some sort of domestic abuse. This in a country where there are fewer than a dozen women's shelters providing sanctuary from the cruelty they face. And all of them are privately run.

"Bibi Aisha is only one example of thousands of girls and women in Afghanistan and throughout the world who are treated this way. Who suffer abuses like this -- like this and worse," Women for Afghan Women board member Esther Hyneman said.

In 2001, the situation of Afghan women and Taliban brutality received lots of attention. Now, organizations like Women for Afghan Women say, the international community is strangely silent on the issue.

And with the Afghan government's plans to negotiate with some of the Taliban -- supported by many in the international community -- many fear that it will be the women who will pay the price.

Hyneman says that not enough is being done to help the women in Afghanistan, and that feeds into the hands of the Taliban.

Aisha is reminded of that every time she looks in the mirror.

But at least now she will be going to the United States for a chance at a new life.

And just like the iconic picture of an Afghan girl on a 1985 National Geographic cover brought the plight of Afghan women under Soviet oppression to the world's attention, many hope Aisha's face can show the new plight under the Taliban.

Forbes Richest Celebrities List Includes Familiar Names

The world has a new richest man, according to Forbes.
But chances are you wouldn't know if Carlos Slim, valued at $53.5 billion, stepped into the room. He doesn't have his own television show, fashion line or personal sneaker. He does have a stranglehold on Mexico's telecommunications industry. For that, we give him a sarcastic "hooray!" After the jump are the billionaires you do know. They're not quite as rich as Slim, but they're a whole lot more sexy (yeah, we're looking at you Mark Zuckerberg)...

Mark Zuckerberg - $4 Billion
Mark, 25, is the youngest billionaire in the world. He's the face behind Facebook, and the undisputed champ of social networking. Speaking of which, he'll be portrayed by Jesse Eisenberg in 'The Social Network,' due in theaters this fall. No word on who will play MySpace's 'Tom.'

Oprah Winfrey - $2.7 Billion
Oprah is arguably the most powerful person in entertainment. She turns authors into instant celebs, down home chefs into chain restauranteurs and doctors into blockbuster gurus. She's turned us into believers, and you know we'll tune in when the Oprah Winfrey Network launches later this year

OK, Steve's not all that sexy, but his sleek little machines sure are. If you don't have an Apple device in your pocket, well, you're kinda fakin' the funk. Thanks to Jobs, it's no longer cool to be different -- we're looking at you Zune users. Just, y'know, Think Different.

J.K. Rowling - $1 Billion
Behold, the purchasing power of kids. And moms. And teens. OK, everybody loves 'Harry Potter.' The richest chick in Britain deserves every Galleon she's put in the bank. Don't expect to see Rowling on welfare again any time soon.

Steven Spielberg - $3 Billion
Spielberg is the king of the big screen, even if Steven Seagal is the first celeb that pops up when typing "Steven S" into Google. Don't take our word for it. Count his ticket stubs. Films directed by Spielberg haul in an average of $157 million at the box office. He's so guffaw-ing at Kathryn Bigelow right now.

Michel Bloomberg - $16 Billion
We thought we read somewhere -- maybe it was the Magna Carta... or the Constitution... or Microsoft Encarta -- that democratic leaders aren't supposed to be billionaires. Nobody told Mayor Bloomberg, who spent $90 million on his last campaign.

Ralph Lauren - $2.8 Billion
Humans need only four things: air, food, clothes and sex. Ralph sells two of those. Pop the collar on a pink Polo polo shirt in springtime and watch your sexual fitness skyrocket. Popped collar Gap polos do not induce the same effect. We've tried.

As if the 212th richest man in the world wasn't everywhere already, Sir Richard Branson is aiming for the stars with his private space agency Virgin Galactic. Supermodel confirms gift of 'stones' at Hague trial

Supermodel Naomi Campbell took the stand Thursday in the trial of former Liberian President Charles Taylor and said she received a gift of "dirty-looking stones" that she assumed was from him.

Campbell was handed the stones following a dinner hosted by Nelson Mandela in 1997.

"When I was sleeping I had a knock on my door. I opened the door and two men were there. They gave me a pouch and said, "A gift for you.'"

The men didn't introduce themselves nor say anything else, Campbell said.

The next morning, she opened the pouch and saw a few "very small, dirty-looking stones."

She then shared what happened with her then-agent, Carole White, and actress Mia Farrow at breakfast.
When arguing to reopen the case, prosecutors said Campbell's testimony would prove that the former president "used rough diamonds for personal enrichment and arms purchases," according to papers filed with the U.N.-backed court.

Campbell did not want to be involved in the trial but was subpoenaed July 1.

Taylor, 62, was president of Liberia from 1997 to 2003.

The war crimes charges against him stem from the widespread murder, rape and mutilation that occurred during the civil war in Sierra Leone.

Campbell said she didn't keep the diamonds.

"Well that's obviously Charles Taylor," one of them said. Campbell didn't recall who. Then, one of them added, "Well, obviously they are diamonds."

Asked if she thought the stones came from Taylor, Campbell said, "I just assumed that it was."

Prosecutors asked the Special Court of Sierra Leone in May to order the supermodel to testify about allegations she got a "blood diamond" from Taylor, and requested permission to reopen their case against him.

Taylor faces war crimes charges over a brutal conflict in Sierra Leone which was fueled by rough diamonds, also known as blood diamonds or conflict diamonds.

He has testified that he never handled the precious stones that fueled the conflict

She passed them on to a friend, and asked him to use the stones to auction them in a charity to raise money for underprivileged children.

Prosecutors had rested their case against Taylor in February 2009, but reopened it specifically to call Campbell to testify after learning in June of that year that Taylor had given the supermodel a diamond.

Prosecutors also want to call Farrow and White to testify, court papers show.

Prosecutors have said that Farrow confirmed that Taylor gave Campbell a diamond

It was fought largely by teenagers who were forced to kill, given addictive drugs to provoke violent behavior, and often instructed to rape and plunder.

Taylor is charged with five counts of crimes against humanity, including murder, sexual slavery and violence, and enslavement.

He also faces five counts of war crimes, including acts of terrorism and torture, and one count of other serious violations of international humanitarian law.

He has pleaded not guilty

RSS how it works

RSS is a format for syndicating news and the content of news-like sites, including major news sites like Wired, news-oriented community sites like Slashdot, and personal weblogs. But it's not just for news. Pretty much anything that can be broken down into discrete items can be syndicated via RSS: the "recent changes" page of a wiki, a changelog of CVS checkins, even the revision history of a book. Once information about each item is in RSS format, an RSS-aware program can check the feed for changes and react to the changes in an appropriate way.

RSS-aware programs called news aggregators are popular in the weblogging community. Many weblogs make content available in RSS. A news aggregator can help you keep up with all your favorite weblogs by checking their RSS feeds and displaying new items from each of them.

A brief history
But coders beware. The name "RSS" is an umbrella term for a format that spans several different versions of at least two different (but parallel) formats. The original RSS, version 0.90, was designed by Netscape as a format for building portals of headlines to mainstream news sites. It was deemed overly complex for its goals; a simpler version, 0.91, was proposed and subsequently dropped when Netscape lost interest in the portal-making business. But 0.91 was picked up by another vendor, UserLand Software, which intended to use it as the basis of its weblogging products and other web-based writing software.

In the meantime, a third, non-commercial group split off and designed a new format based on what they perceived as the original guiding principles of RSS 0.90 (before it got simplified into 0.91). This format, which is based on RDF, is called RSS 1.0. So, you have a blog!
Do you have traffic?
Do you know how to build traffic to your weblog?
There are seven proven methods for building readership of your blog.
They start with defining the purpose, or life, of your blog.
Then, after you have a blog worth promoting, driving traffic is crucial to your ongoing success at blogging.
Here are seven tips to help you build and hold an audience for your blog:

Tip #1:
Provide quality content.On the Internet, whether you are talking about websites or blogs, a lot of space is given to content.
Everyone directs you to provide quality content.
But, what is quality content?
The quality of your blog’s content is directly related to how well you have defined your ideal audience.
A successful blog is written with a distinct audience in mind.
In this way, you can provide content that is unique to your audience’s issues, needs, or desires.
If you create content they like and wish to return to read, you have quality content.
The second issue is to stay true to your audience and tone of your blog.
If people are reading your blog, it’s because they like your topic and tone.
Try not to stray from your typical topics and style too much.
This will give your readers a reason to link back to your blog on an ongoing basis, as will posting on a regular basis.

Tip #2:
Blog regularlyIf you don't update your blog often enough, blog readers will move on to other blogs.
There are too many blogs out there competing for attention.
Blog readers will go where they can get enough of what they want.
Successful blogging takes a commitment of your time.
When you begin blogging and wish to capture an audience, you should be prepared to blog every day.
In this way, you can develop an audience who counts on you to help them begin or end their day.
This means you should also try to post at the same time each day.
Your readers will get accustomed to your schedule and check your blog at the appropriate time.
The time of day is not as crucial as the consistency in your posting.
Since you now have quality content and a regular posting schedule, it’s time to drive traffic to your blog.
Your readers will do a lot to promote your blog just by telling their friends.
Don’t count on this alone!
You need to do some additional work.
When you post, make sure you set your blog to “ping” blog tracking sites every time you add a new post.
Think of this as a means to get their attention.
The ping says “Hey, we just added a new post”.
An alternative to automatically pinging from your blog is to use pingomatic.com. This is a one-stop place to automatically ping everyone you should notify of your new post and only takes a couple of minutes to accomplish.

Tip #3:
Mention your blog wherever you canMention your blog’s address in your email signature line, in forums where you post, on your business cards, on address labels and in conversations with anyone you meet.

A sassy little marketing blogBeyond just mentioning your blog in writing and conversation, you must actively participate in the blogging community too.

Tip #4:
Participate in the blogosphereGet involved in other people's blogs.
Visit blogs that interest you and are in line with the general topic of your blog. Then, leave thoughtful comments.
Almost every comment option on someone else’s blog will allow you to post your blog URL and your email address.
Help other bloggers out with traffic and they will help you.If a blogger really likes your site, they will add you to their blogroll.
A blogroll is generally found on every blog which understands linking to the rest of the blogosphere helps drive traffic.
A blogroll is a listing of other blogs.
Think of it as a “recommended reading list”.
Don’t be stingy with your blog roll either.
Add those blogs that you read and enjoy to your blogroll too.

Tip #5:
Think keywords when you postThink about keywords with your use of titles, links and blog posts. Search engines, like Google and Yahoo, like keywords. The more targeted your keywords, the better the chances of your blog appearing in search results. Search results can drive that extra traffic you want.To increase the value of the key words in your content, make certain keywords are part of the hot link in your posts. Don’t use “click here” as the hot link. You will be wasting valuable real estate in your post. Instead use the relevant keywords for the hot link, like “a great marketing idea. This gives the keywords added emphasis with the search engines.One last thought on keywords for driving traffic; if you want a real leg up in the traffic game, in your linking code add rel=”tag”. This helps Technorati, a major blog resource, index your blog for their directory. But don’t stop there! It’s time to submit your blog to blog directories.

Tip #6:
Submit your blog to blog directoriesIn addition to submitting your blog to the major search engines, make certain you submit the blog to exclusively blog directories like blogwise, blogcatalog, or bloghub.
Many people find blogs through these online directories.
When you do submit your blog to these directories, remember to add a description that will entice your targeted audience to check your blog out.
For instance, when I post my blog in blog directories, under description I put “General musings, rants, advice and strategies from a battle-worn veteran of the Marketing Wars, online and off”.
Your description should help the potential reader understand your blogging topic and the flavor of how you write.
In addition to submitting your blog to blog directories, join a few of the free or inexpensive traffic exchange sites like blogexplosion or blogclicker.

Tip #7:
Use free and inexpensive blog traffic exchange communities
There are many sites which can be termed “traffic exchange” sites for the blogging community.
It won’t cost you anything to sign up.
At the very least, join
blogexplosion,
blogclicker,
and blogazoo.
Once you sign up, you have two options to help drive traffic to your blog.
Use both of them!
The first method is to earn credits (guaranteed visitors to your site) by using the “surf member sites” function.
As you surf through those sites, you will be earning credits (visitors to your blog). When you find an interesting post, leave a comment as discussed above.
When you find a blogger you like, add them to your blogroll and let them know you did.
The second method to drive traffic is to purchase credits.
The cost is very cheap for the traffic you will drive to your blog.
The more traffic to your blog, the more customers you’ll have.
The more happy customers you have, the more they will tell others.
The more they tell others, the more customers you get.
Don’t you love this dance!In summary, blogging may not be for everyone.
However, it can be a great method for bringing your unique perspective to the Internet.

Profiting from blogs is just a matter of grabbing the attention of an audience and not doing any actual salesmen selling.
In this article you will learn the 13 most essential steps to successful blogging.
1) Where to start?
You should begin your blog with a free blog hosting service such as Journal Home or Blogger. Starting with a free blog hosting service allows you to begin blogging instantly without having any advance knowledge of scripts, hosting, or programming.
It allows you to focus on your content and not the internal maintenance of the blog.
The best benefit of starting with a free service is, in the case your blog doesn't become successful you do not lose any money or are you left holding the bill.
The great thing about a blog is that they are organized in chronological order, your latest entry is displayed first.
When your blog traffic grows greatly and you are ready to upgrade to your own domain then you can simply make your last blog entry the announcement of your "move".
Simply add a last entry stating that your blog has "moved" and type the new blog URL address. Which directs visitors to your new blog site, keeping your following, without a major inconvenience to anyone.
Upgrade as you need to...but only when you need to!

A blog about your cat can be a niche or a blog about the species of the cat family can be a larger niche market, if there are people who are interested in hearing about your cat or the species of the cat family...you can even choose to build your audience for a market which an audience does not exist, but first you must build your blog.

3) Update Daily (nothing less)This step is a must and not a suggestion.
Updating your blog daily not only keeps your blog more interesting to readers, but it also gives your blog fresh content on a day to day making it more appealing to search engines.
Not updating your blog on an occasional holiday or one day here and there is understandable to most, but missing days at a time or weeks is unacceptable and will most likely result in your blog being unsuccessful.
To keep your blog traffic and retain your visitors interest it is a must to update your blog daily with multiple entries.
You should try to update your blog everyday with at least 3 or more daily entries.
The best way to accomplish this is to set aside 1-2 hours a day for tending to your blog and adding new entries.

You should confidently share your blog with family, friends, co-workers, associates, and business professionals when it relates.
Many blogs can be considered as a collection of articles, for this purpose you should submit your blog entries (those that are valuable and lengthy articles) to content syndicators like GoArticles.com or ArticleCity.com.
Once submitted your articles can be picked up and published by others.
The trick is to make sure you include your Blog URL address in the "About the Author" passage. Some do not comment at all, but are active daily visitors.
Tracking your blog does not have to be overly sophisticated usually a simple free page counter like StatCounter.com or Active Meter will do the trick.
Install (copy/paste) the code into the html of your blog template and start tracking your visitors. Its better to use a service which gives you advanced traffic analysis, such as keyword tracking information, referral information, and search engine information.
Visitors, returning visitors, and unique visitors should be standard for any page counter service you choose.

6) Listen to Your AudienceWhen using the proper page counter you should begin to see how others are finding your blog and if through search engines then which keywords are being used to find your blog.
If constantly your blog is being found by 1 or more keywords then focus your blog around those keywords to make it even more powerful.
When writing entry titles and entries use the keywords as often as possible while keeping the blog legible and interesting.

7) Multiple blogsUse multiple blogging accounts to attract more people. This means you should have a blog with

The more blog accounts the better.

Sometimes there are exceptions to the rule and you have no choice but to blog lengthy entries, but try to avoid this as much as possible.
You do not want your blog entries to become hours of reading.
Visitors like to easily find information and skim through your entries.
It is good to be detailed and provide useful information, but do not include useless information or run away sentences that veer away from your topic.

Of course, the content of the blog is the most important aspect and you do not want to overshadow your content with graphics, but displaying graphics can add a bit of spice to the blog. Be choosy about your graphics and make sure they fit your entry topic.
You should add content with the graphic, at least a caption.
Original graphics, photos, pictures, and art is recommended.

10) Keep it PersonalA blog is most successful when it is kept personal.
Try to include personal experiences which relates to the topic of your blog entry.
Stay away from the business style of writing.
Write with a more personal style and use first-person narratives.
Do not write any of your entries as sales letters, instead share product reviews and personal endeavors.

11) Interact With Your VisitorsYou now have the traffic you deserve.
You should begin interacting with your visitors.
Create a regular theme such as: "Monday Money Tip" or "Picture of the Week" which entices your readers to look forward to each week.
Give your readers advance notice about a product, service, or topic which you are going to review and then talk about later.
If the President was scheduled to give a speech then in your blog you should state that you "will discuss the speech and give your opinion after the speech airs.

Such as:
If your blog was about Paris Hilton (the socialite) and you had a blog entry about "Paris Hilton Getting Married" then it would be interesting to your readers if you had a actual picture of Paris Hilton engagement ring.
Give your best effort to dig and search the internet for exclusive information and you will possibly come up with something useful. Your readers will appreciate this and they show their appreciation through word-of-mouth referrals.

The power of weblogs is that they allow millions of people to easily publish their ideas, and millions more to comment on them.
Increasingly people write, read and comment on blogs.
Many people mistakenly believe that blogs are only personal diaries.
More and more, blogs are being used by businesses to attract customers.
Since blogs now come in all flavors, let’s look at the basics of blogging.
A blogger is someone who writes a blog.
The “Blogosphere” is a word used to describe the online community of bloggers and their writings.
A blog differs from a website only because it is a website that is updated frequently, most often displaying its material in journal-like entries.
An entry, a post, or a posting, are the terms often used to refer to a specific article or commentary written by the blogger on his or her blog. Many weblogs allow readers to write a reaction to what was written in the blog entry.
These comments can often be found directly following the blog entry.
For millions of people, blogging is a hobby.
For some, like journalists, writers, business leaders and political leaders, writing blogs enhances their professional careers.

I’ve sure you’ve heard before that it’s a possibility to make money with your blog and you may be wondering how this is possible.

I have a personal blog which is just my own private little place to go online and jot down my thoughts, but I also have my business blogs.

I didn’t know what I could do to not only be a value to others so they would come back to my blog, but that I would still enjoy writing it.

After starting a blog that was meant to just be an add on to my business at MommysPlace.net and struggling with the direction of that blog, I came across one of Alice Seba’s blogs.
Which she used to write about her experience through a traffic product.Every couple of weeks or so she would update her progress through this course.
She would tell us all about her successes with this product and how great it was for her business. And it made me think of how I could do something similar.
Product/Service Focused BlogThis is when the light bulb moment went off in my head. This is when I realized what I should have been doing all along.

I have a large website and it’s not always easy for people to find my information.
So this is a great way for me to keep certain new pages or sections of my website in the public eye and get traffic to those pages.

There can be many ways and many topics in which you can make money and gain exposure to other businesses you may have or can help in creating you as an expert in a certain field.

It can be for someone's yahoo page, msn page and other ways.When they click on that they can add your blog to their personal yahoo page.

They can subscribe to it so easily and they will be automatically updated whenever you have posted.
